Reduce · Reuse · Recycle

Start with the guide that maps it out.

How we handle waste shapes the world around us.

How we buy, use, separate, and dispose of materials affects the cleanliness of our surroundings and the resources we use.

When different kinds of waste are mixed together, useful materials become harder to recover, and waste that is mishandled is more likely to end up polluting land and water. Handling it well is not complicated — it starts with a few everyday decisions that anyone can make.

The best waste is the waste we never create.

Small habits, at college and at home

Simple, repeatable actions that keep shared spaces cleaner and make waste easier to handle.

At college

  • Carry a reusable bottle or cup.
  • Use a lunchbox or reusable cutlery when practical.
  • Put waste in the correct bins; avoid contaminating recycling with food.
  • Organise a short litter-pick or campus cleanup with permission and safe handling.
  • Print only when necessary and use both sides of paper when appropriate.

At home

  • Plan purchases and avoid excess packaging where possible.
  • Keep reusable bags and containers handy.
  • Separate organic waste, recyclables, and residual waste according to local rules.
  • Compost suitable organic waste if there is a safe, practical setup.
  • Keep batteries, e-waste, chemicals, and sharps out of ordinary waste; use appropriate local collection routes.
